Sentences
Being able to identify and write different types of sentences can make both reading and writing much more interesting. There are many ways in which grammarians describe the main sentence types used in English. The simplest of these is aptly called a ‘simple sentence’.
This type of sentence has only one subject. The subject is a word or phrase that describes the main topic or theme of the sentence. In most simple sentences this will be just one word. A simple sentence also has one finite verb. A finite verb tells you the tense, person and number being used. In most simple sentences this will be just one word too.
