About Me

About Me

I am a trained and experienced editor who has worked in the publishing industry for more than fifteen years. I am also a proud survivor of trauma, toxic manipulation and abuse and am putting together my life again against some very high odds. I am proud of the strength I show in both my life and work.

I have worked both in-house and freelance, with international publishers, like, Pearson and Sage (India), as well as smaller and more local ones. I learned the nuts-and-bolts of the editing craft at Sage Publications (India) Pvt. Ltd., receiving a thorough grounding in minimal and substantive copy-editing, briefing freelance staff, writing blurbs, and liaising with authors, proofreaders and the marketing team.

Having relocated to the U.K. in 2000, I took a short career break to look after my young son. In 2003 I began working freelance, offering Permissions Editing services to publishers. Over the years, I have built up a network of contacts to facilitate this process and have so far delivered more than 100 projects of varying size and complexity to a number of reputed clients. I have now consolidated my growing business under the venture name of Scriba Editing.

I bring to my work a good range of general knowledge, understanding of copyright issues, attention to detail, adherence to schedules, and respect for project budgets. In addition, I am fully committed to working as part of the client’s team.

In her work as a freelance permissions editor for the Humanities team, Sasmita has provided an excellent service. She is meticulous, efficient and reliable and it is a pleasure to work with her.

Senior Project Editor, Pearson Education

Working with Sasmita was a delight. We worked together on quite a complicated permissions job. She was quick and thorough, and gave me complete confidence in her work.
Her record-keeping is meticulous, and her attention to detail meant that the whole permissions process was organised and clear, and the all-important acknowledgements were accurate. Knowing Sasmita was in charge took a weight off my mind.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her for any permissions job, however complicated.
